Maria Vagueiro, aged 95, completed her earthly journey on August 19, 2026, leaving a legacy of love, dedication, and hard work for her family and those who knew her. Born in Veiros, Portugal, on July 3, 1931, to the late Antonio Barbosa and Rosalina daSilva, Maria was a beacon of strength and resilience, embodying the spirit of her homeland as she navigated her life's path. She immigrated to Newark, New Jersey, bringing with her a rich cultural heritage which she lovingly shared with her family and community.

Known for her tireless work ethic, Maria served as a housekeeper at St. James Hospital for 25 years before her well-earned retirement. Her dedication to her work was emblematic of her commitment to providing for her family and serving her community. Yet, Maria's true calling was as a nurturing mother and grandmother. She is survived by her children, Maria Fernandes and her husband Manuel, Antonio Manuel Vagueiro, and Dina Vagueiro. Her joy was amplified by her grandchildren: Johnnie, Fatima, Manny, and Amanda Fernandes. The delight of her golden years was being a great-grandmother to Max, Parker, and Braxton Fernandes, Mason Bork, and Gianna Sokolowski.

Maria's life will be commemorated, beginning with a visitation on Friday, August 21, 2026, at 5:00 pm at the Zuasola Funeral Homes of New Jersey, located at 101 Union Avenue, Belleville, New Jersey, 07109. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 11:00 am at Immaculate Conception, 370 Woodside Avenue, Newark, New Jersey, 07104. Everyone is encouraged to gather at the funeral home on Saturday at 10:00 am. Maria will be laid to rest at the Hollywood Cemetery, 1621 Stuyvesant Avenue, Union, New Jersey, 07083 at 1:00 pm.
