Apolonio Esguerra

–

Belleville, New Jersey

Apolonio “Polly” Esguerra of Jersey City, a beloved father, husband, grandfather, and dear friend, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2026, at the age of 89. Born on January 13, 1937, in Montalban, Rizal, Philippines, Polly was the son of the late Leandro Esguerra Sr. and Candelaria Constantino. He was a man of steadfast faith, with his membership at the Global Harvest Fellowship in Bayonne standing as a testament to his devoutness and deep-rooted spirituality. Polly was a steadfast pillar of strength and security, both in his personal life and in his professional pursuits. He dedicated 22 years of his life to serving as a security officer, exhibiting an unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of those he protected. His work ethic was unparalleled, but it was his warm heart and generous spirit that truly set him apart.

Polly loved fishing, gardening, music, and movies. Never knowing who lived in a pineapple under the sea, despite repeated reminders that it was SpongeBob, he was always full of jokes ready for a comeback, and can be relied on to make you laugh even on your worst days. He always had a smile and never seemingly running out of thumbs up signs to give even on his bad days while in the hospital. As the patriarch of the family, he always listened without judgement, graced you with an abundance of patience and understanding and gave fatherly advice that always reminded you to do to the right thing. His unwavering love and support meant the world to all of his loved ones.

Polly is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Elizabeth. His legacy of love and dedication continues in his children: Abee (Tetet), Ellah (Kay), and Laly (Morgan). He was a doting grandfather to Robyn, Julia, Ewan, and Kenzie who will forever carry their grandfather's wisdom and compassion in their hearts. Besides his immediate family, Polly leaves behind a host of friends and extended family members who will always remember him for his warmth, kindness, resilience, and unwavering faith.

We encourage all who knew and loved Polly to visit the memorial page. Please share your treasured memories of him, and upload photos that celebrate his life and the love he shared with all of us. Even as we mourn his loss, let us remember and celebrate the extraordinary life of Apolonio “Polly” Esguerra. He will forever be in our hearts, and his legacy will continue to inspire us.
